Biographie
When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training in 2004. I had retired from powerlifting at the age of 22 after taking 3rd in the world in my weight class. I was looking for something to do that was competitive and helped pass the time. My friends were going to an MMA class and asked if I wanted to tag along, so I did. I literally had no fight training at all, and after getting my butt kicked that night, I told myself I would keep going back until I’d evened the score. Ten weeks later I was running classes and have been in-love with the sport ever since.
What ranks and titles have you held? Currently the number 2 fighter @ 170 in New England. Reality Fighting Welterweight champion
Do you have any heroes? My mother. Never in my life have I seen anyone struggle so much and overcome so much adversity…with a smile. At times I’ve sat at the dinner table and asked my mother why she wasn’t eating and she said she wasn’t hungry, when in fact we didn’t have enough money or food for her to eat at all. My mother is a strong independent person and always told me to finish what I start.
What is your favorite technique? Conditioning!!! You can have all the tools in the world, but if you’re not conditioned well enough to perform the task at hand….game over!!!
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? No degree
What was your job before you started fighting? Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach, Certified Personal Trainer - both certifications are through the NSCA.
Most memorable professional fight? Danillo Vilefort...it was my first WEC fight and I lost. I learned more from that loss than any win and now everyone needs to watch out because it motivated the hell out of me. Losing Sucks!
What was your most challenging professional fight? My first MMA fight. I was really nervous and did not know what to expect
Did you compete in any other sport(s) at college or professional level? I competed in professional powerlifting and took 3rd in the world at 198lbs
Who were your training partners for this fight? Marcus Davis, Kenny Florian, Greg Rebello, Matt Phinney and all the guys at Sit Yod Tong and Tim Burrill Jiu Jitsu
What is your favorite thing about this sport? Getting paid to do something I love
How long do you see yourself staying in this sport? Until the fire and desire to compete dies down...that will never happen
