Biographie

TRAINING: Strength and conditioning at XCel fitness in Salt Lake 4 days a week.  Sparring, grappling, padwork, etc. at Jeremy Horn's Elite Performance every evening.

Thoughts on opponent, Corey Anderson?  Corey is my toughest test to date, and ranked very highly in the LHW division for a reason. I’m excited to showcase some grappling in this bout, and give the fans a show.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started in 2007 as a way to challenge myself after an unsatisfying college football career. Soon after, I found my way to Jeremy Horn's Elite Performance and started to learn what the sport is really about. I've loved it ever since.

What ranks and titles have you held? Ultimate Combat Heavyweight Champ (2007). I deliberately stop all of my martial arts progression at purple belt, because purple is my favorite color.

Do you have any heroes? My Grandfathers, Delmer Scales and Robert O'Connell, and my Father, Tim O'Connell

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? This is huge for me, both as the accomplishment of a goal I set many years ago and as an opportunity to represent my family, friends, coaches and training partners on the biggest stage.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I have a Psychology degree from the University of Utah (Go Utes)

What was your job before you started fighting? In addition to fighting, I am a sports-talk radio host. I actually interviewed Dana White on my show and asked him for a contract a year ago. I guess he just took a while to get around to it...

Favorite grappling technique: D'arce choke

Favorite Striking technique: Liver Kick
• Pro since 2007

• Nine wins by KO, three by submission (3 RNC)

• Has won 8 of last 12

• Seven first round finishes

• Owns September 2013 decision win over UFC vet Marvin Eastman

• Origin of nickname: “Very few people in my life call me Sean. I've always been 'OC' to people. When I started fighting, that stupid OC TV show was on, and the first promoter I fought for decided to distinguish me from all that with the tag "The Real OC." It stuck from there.”
