Biographie

TRAINING:   I like to start off the day with some strength and conditioning and get that over with quick. I finish the morning with some solid technique and game planning. Then later on in the afternoon we have team practice, and I'll get more physical work with the rest of the team in. After all that is said and done, it’s a little one-on-one with my boxing coach - a lot of mental work, or just being creative with new combinations.

When and why did you start training for fighting? 2005. I just wanted to get in shape. My first trainer asked me if I wanted to compete, and I’m not one to ever say "no," so I took the fight. The rest is history.

What ranks and titles have you held? MMAXX Fights 155lb champion (Mexico),
Blue belt in BJJ

Do you have any heroes? None

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It means everything to me - eight years of hard work has paid off.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? No, went to art institute.

What was your job before you started fighting? Worked at a furniture company.

Favorite grappling technique: Crucifix

Favorite striking technique: Boxing
• Five wins by submission (3 RNC, armbar, reverse triangle choke), seven by knockout

• Ten first round finishes, five in a minute or less

• 4-1, 1 NC in his last six

• Scored 57 second submission win over Strikeforce vet James Terry in June of 2013

• Origin of nickname: “When I first started my career I was fighting down in Mexico, beating most of their top guys. It was getting harder to get a fight because guys will pull out. So the promoter and the fans gave me the name “El Cucuy.” With that being said, I think a nickname should be given to you.”
