Biographie

TRAINING: I train 3-5 hours a day. Wrestling/Grappling - 3 days a week. Sparring and Technical Sparring/Muay Thai - 2 days a week.

When and why did you start training for fighting? I started training at age four and competing at age five in karate/traditional martial arts. The sport karate circuits I competed in had point fighting and continuous fighting divisions, even for competitors as young as five years old. The reason I started training was because my older sister, Colbey Northcutt, who is also a black belt and multiple-time world sport karate and kickboxing champion, was competing and having fun, and I wanted to do the same. She was also Legacy’s amateur bantamweight champion.

What ranks and titles have you held? Third degree black belt in Taekwondo, third degree black belt in Kajukenbo, and a three-stripe purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu.

Do you have any heroes? Jesus Christ

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? When I was nine years old, I was the youngest person to ever be on the cover of Sport Karate Magazine. When I was interviewed, I said I would be in the UFC and be a UFC world champ someday. I also repeated the very same thing when I was inducted into the Black Belt Magazine Hall of Fame in 2012. So Dana White giving me this opportunity means a great deal, and I’m not going to let him or anyone else down. I’m very excited.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? I’m currently a second semester freshman at Texas A&M in the Petroleum Engineering program. A&M is the #1 Petroleum Engineering school in the country out of the 22 schools that offer it. I’m very blessed to be there.

What was your job before you started fighting? I was a high school student when I fought as a 17-year-old, and I’m currently a college student... so I really haven’t had a job yet; this will be my first. (Laughs)

Specific accomplishments in amateur competition? In the amateurs, I was Legacy’s simultaneous lightweight and welterweight titleholder. I knocked out my lightweight opponent in the first round, and I submitted my welterweight opponent in the first round.

Specific accomplishments in pro competition? I finished my first four opponents in the first round, three by knockout and one by submission. I finished my (very experienced) fifth opponent by submission in the second round... When I looked him up, it took Mike Brown of the UFC two rounds to finish him. Mike Brown was 31 years old, had already fought in the UFC, and had a 12-4 record when he fought him.

Favorite grappling technique: Twister

Favorite Striking technique: Any spinning kicks

  • Pro since 2014
  • Five wins by KO, three by submission (RNC, neck crank, guillotine)
  • Has finished eight of 11 wins, five in the first round
  • Has won four of his last five and three in a row
  • Had 5-1 amateur record
  • Origin of nickname: “From my Legacy Fighting days.”
