Aguilar Signs with UFC, Debuts vs. Gadelha

The top female strawweight not signed to the UFC is a free agent no longer, as Jessica Aguilar will now compete with the best 115-pounders in the world, beginning with her UFC debut against Brazilian contender Claudia Gadelha at UFC 190 in Rio De Janeiro on August 1.

UFC 190, which takes place at HSBC Arena, is headlined by the UFC women's bantamweight title fight between Ronda Rousey and Bethe Correia, and also features the highly-anticipated rematch between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Rogerio Nogueira. Tickets are on sale now.

Born in Mexico, but now making her home in Florida, where she trains with the renowned American Top Team squad, the 33-year-old Aguilar (19-4) is a veteran of nearly a decade in the fight game, and owner of victories over the likes of Carla Esparza, Angela Magana, Lisa Ellis and Megumi Fujii. Currently sporting a ten-fight winning streak, Aguilar will step into the Octagon against the number two-ranked Gadelha, winner of 12 of 13 pro bouts, with the only loss a razor-thin split decision at the hands of current champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
