Live Event on Rogers Sportsnet Saturday, January 22 at 9 p.m. EST

Toronto, Ontario, Canada – January 20, 2011 -- The Ultimate Fighting Championship® heads to Fort Hood, Texas this Saturday, January 22 in support of the honourable men and women in the military with “UFC® Fight For The Troops 2”. In Canada, the special live event will air on Rogers Sportsnet at 9:00pm ET/6:00pm PT and raise funds for the Canadian Hero Fund, a charitable organization dedicated to supporting Canadian military personnel and their families.

An explosive fight card is highlighted by a main event that pits highly-ranked lightweight Evan Dunham against knockout artist Melvin Guillard while two Canadians will also see action. Edmonton’s Tim Hague will square off against former NFL defensive tackle Matt Mitrione while Thamesford, Ontario native Mark Hominick is one win away from a chance at the UFC featherweight title as he meets the tough and hard-nosed George Roop.

This special live UFC fight card will raise funds for the Canadian Hero Fund. Information about ways to donate can be found online at www.herofund.ca.

Rogers Sportsnet will air special features throughout the broadcast in support of the Canadian Forces who served in Afghanistan while viewers will also see Canadian UFC fighters speak to the importance of our men and women in the military and of the Canadian Hero Fund. The initial project of the Canadian Hero Fund is to provide post-secondary scholarships to the children and spouses of fallen Canadian soldiers.

“Our soldiers take care of us, and this is our chance to help take care of them,” said Tom Wright, UFC Director of Canadian Operations. “We’re honoured to support our military by putting on some great fights while helping raise funds for the Canadian Hero Fund.”

“This is a great opportunity to bring together those who fight for their country, those who fight for a living, and the Hero Fund that supports those who serve,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Cliff Trollope, Commanding Officer of the Royal Regiment of Canada. “The bond is a natural one that will only get stronger as we spend more time together."

In addition to catching the main card on Rogers Sportsnet at 9.pm. ET, fans have the opportunity to watch two live preliminary fights for free at 8 p.m. EST by simply clicking the “Like” button on the official UFC Facebook page.
