Biographie

TRAINING: I have prepared for this fight in my hometown of Auckland, New Zealand, working with some of the top combat sports athletes and coaches. This is definitely the best shape I have ever been in with my conditioning coach Makoto Endo monitoring my fitness. My wrestling is reaching new levels with a great addition to my camp in Andrei Paulet. So old and fresh faces are in camp helping me prepare.

When and why did you start training for fighting? Over five years ago after watching a friend level some guy and the crowd went nuts. I love the sport and training, but I got into this game to compete and be the best.

What ranks and titles have you held? Australian Fighting Championship LW Title, Supremacy New Zealand LW Champion, King In The Ring Middleweight Kickboxing Champion, WKBF X-Rules Welterweight Champion, BJJ blue belt

Do you have any heroes? New Zealand’s greatest champions, guys like Mark Hunt, Jason Suttie, Jordan Tai, my coach Aaron Boyes.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? To be fighting in the UFC means everything.

What was your job before you started fighting? Doorman in Auckland CBD

Favorite striking technique: Body shots

• Has fought from heavyweight to featherweight

• Pro since 2009

• Five wins by submission (2 RNC, armbar, guillotine, triangle), six by KO

• Eight first-round finishes

• Has won 7 of last 9

• Origin of nickname: “I love finishing the fight with chokes; give me half a chance to sink one in and I’ll jump on it.”
